Born in Riga, Latvia into a family of artists, Ieva Baklane received classical training passing her BFA at Janis Rozental’s high school of Art and her MFA at the Art Academy of Latvia. She exhibited in Riga, Berlin, Prague and Rome, before moving to Canada with her husband and two children in 2002 and since then has exhibited in Toronto, Ottawa and now Vancouver. Baklane works in abstract and realism styles. She is influenced by architecture’s light, form and color, and has always been fascinated by surf and skateboard culture. Her more abstract work offers the observer a wonderful puzzle of colors and geometric shapes with a depth reminiscent of three-dimensional art. Her paintings can be found in many private collections in Latvia, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Italy, UK, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Poland, Portugal and France.
