Simon Fleming is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice revolves around concepts of place and fabricated identities. He was trained in Fine Art at the University of Guelph and Illustration at Sheridan College, Ontario. Inspired by his international experience, he mines source materials from both personal narratives and public historical contexts, collaging various mediums and methods to create new conversations. His art often avoids intentional visual cues, but instead relies on emotive qualities of colours, structures, and material applications to investigate ideas around space and selfhood. The appearance of Simon’s mixed-media paintings is often a result of wandering from representational to abstract and back again, as he reflects upon the visual and physical environments around him. Simon has exhibited across Canada and internationally in Ireland, France, Germany, the UK, Sweden and Chile. He currently lives and works in Vancouver.
